THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Is Colombia a safe destination?
Yes! Security in Colombia has greatly improved since the famous drug wars of the 90’s. In 2016, a peace agreement was signed between the government and the main opposition group. There are still some conflict areas in the southern part of the country (the jungle), but the areas we will visit during this adventure are safe. Camila grew up in Colombia and oversees organizing all the operations within the country. She will ensure everything is safe during the trip, as she has for many foreign visitors throughout the years. She has traveled across Colombia with visitors, from the Amazon all the way to Providencia and has never run into security issues.
Do I need to be Scuba certified? If so, What type of certification works?
Yes! We will be participating in premier diving, and it is important for you to know what you are doing. An Open Water Diver certification (PADI, SSI) must be completed at least 1 week before the trip.
What Scuba Equipment is included and what do I need to bring?
You will be provided with the BCD (buoyancy control device), regulators (octopus), weights and tanks (which will be filled to 3000 psi for each dive). You need to bring your mask, snorkel, and fins. The water is warm all year round (remember this is the Caribbean!) so it is possible to dive with only a swimming suit and a rash guard. If you have neoprene wetsuit, it should not be thicker than 3mm.
What vaccines do I need?
As we are still in COVID times, Colombia requires at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Additionally, because of the tropical location, you need to have your Yellow Fever vaccine.
What should I bring?
To arrive at our destination, we have to fly in some very small planes! It is suggested to bring just a carry on (even better if it is a backpacking/travel backpack). Bring swimming suits for diving and some for fun at the beach! A couple of changes of outfits (shorts, t-shirts, dresses) should be enough. We recommend one pair of shoes that can get wet and dry fast. Additionally we recommend flip flops, so you can change after diving (from experience the scuba boots are too hot!) Bring any toiletries you might need (travel-size) and don't forget bug repellent and sunblock.
When you say adventure, how rough is it going to be?
Everything is relative. We will be at a hotel with air conditioning and hot water, but on a small Island that has not be tarnished by tourism or huge hotel chains. We will be doing a lot of physical activity in the ocean and exploring on the island. Plan on being under the sun, time at the beach, optional hikes, snorkeling and potentially walking in between destinations.
